Efficiency & Comfort: Attic Insulation
Attic insulation is rated using a thermal resistance measurement known as an R-Value rating, which is a measurement of the resistance to heat flow. When insulating, the higher the R-Value, the greater the insulation efficiency. According to ENERGY STAR®, the recommended level for most attics in Maryland is to insulate to at least R-38 and up to R-60, an insulation depth between 12 and 22 inches (depending on insulation type).
Efficiency & Comfort: Solar Attic Fans
During hot weather, a solar attic fan helps reduce the load on your air conditioning unit by reducing the temperature in your attic. This in turn can help lower the cost to cool your home. During winter months, a solar attic fan helps move out warm, moist air generated by heat sources, which could otherwise condense and cause mold to form. Not only does a solar attic fan operate with no energy cost, it does so while increasing the comfort and safety of your home.
