Your Furnace System: How It Works

The furnace in your Houston home is likely fueled by natural gas, propane, electricity or oil. It creates warm air and circulates it through your home’s duct system. In cooler climates, most homes will have a split system with an indoor furnace unit. A furnace consists of four major components:

  • Burner: Uses a fuel source, such as natural gas, oil, propane, or electricity, to generate heat.
  • Heat exchanger: Is warmed by the burner.
  • Blower: Moves air through the duct system. Cool air is pulled into the ducts, passed through the heat exchanger to be heated, and redistributed through the air ducts. This is a continuous flow.
  • Flue: Sends gaseous byproducts outdoors.

An old, inefficient boiler can be the largest energy user in your home and have a significant impact on your energy costs. When you need a new boiler installation, our team can help you save energy with an energy-efficient upgrade. Plus, we’ll remove your old boiler and ensure a hassle-free installation day. Heat Pumps: How They Work

Even though heat pumps look similar to air conditioning units, they perform both heating and air conditioning functions.
Heat Pump

  • To cool: A heat pump has an outdoor compressor that pumps refrigerant to the evaporator coil in your indoor air handler. Warm air is pulled from inside the house through the air ducts to the evaporator coil. The air is cooled as it moves across the coil can then be distributed through the home. The heat dissipates in the outside compressor.
  • To heat: The above process is reversed – cool air is brought outside, heated, and redistributed through the house via the air ducts.
  • In both functions, the reversing valve switches the flow of refrigerant to either cooling or heating mode, based on how you set your thermostat.

The process is similar to that of a split system, but heat pumps are self-contained and there is no indoor unit.

Boiler Installations

Some homes rely on a boiler for heat during the winter. A boiler circulates hot water or steam throughout your home in a network of pipes in baseboards or radiators. Depending on the type of fuel in your home, boilers can be gas or oil-fired. If you need a new boiler installation, our Energy & Comfort Consultants will help you find the right boiler for your home and budget. Request an estimate today and a member of our team will contact you within one business day.

When you have a complete heating and cooling system installed by Constellation, you will receive:

  • Savings of up to $2,500 off select high-efficiency systems

Boiler: How It Works

A boiler heats your home by generating steam or hot water that travels through pipes to radiators or convectors in your home. The system consists of three major components:

  • Fuel Source: Natural gas or oil is used to heat water or create steam
  • Pipes: Pipes deliver the steam or hot water from the boiler to radiators and convectors. Pipes also return cooled steam or water to the boiler to be heated again.
  • Radiators/Convectors: The radiators and convectors give off heat to warm your home.
